4 scrumptious things you can prepare with a food precessor

Frozen Banana Soft Serve

This is a quick and easiest way to get as close as possible to a healthy soft serve using only 2 ingredients – Banana and Nutella!

INGREDIENTS (serves 1)

  • 2 large ripe bananas

  • 2 tablespoons Nutella

  • Any toppings of choice: honey, sea salt, nuts, etc

DIRECTIONS

  1. Peel and slice ripe bananas. Place in ziplock bags and freeze for at least 2 hours

  2. Once frozen, blend the banana chunks until they're the consistency of soft serve ice cream, stopping every 15 seconds to wipe down the sides of the food processor.

  3. Once you've reached a creamy consistency, add the Nutella, and blend until thoroughly combined.

  4. Return the mixture to the freezer for 5 minutes for more of a soft-serve consistency, or for longer if you prefer texture to be closer to traditional ice cream. Sprinkle on your favourite toppings and enjoy!

 

Creamy almond butter

 INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup whole roasted almonds

 DIRECTIONS

  1. Pour almonds into your food processor and pulse/process until the almonds go to finely ground. If they aren't coming together easily, add up to 1 Tablespoon of any tasteless vegetable oil such as canola oil or peanut oil. Process again until the almonds resemble a thick and relatively smooth almond butter.

  2. If you would like an extra kick, add a half cup of honey or agave for a slightly sweeter aftertaste to the almond butter

 

Silky homemade hummus

 INGREDIENTS

  • 1 can chickpeas

  • 1 clove of garlic (add more garlic if you would like a more garlicy taste)

  • 3 tablespoons of olive oil

  • ½ cup water

  • ½ teaspoon salt

 DIRECTIONS

  1. Deskinning the chickpeas is purely optional if you have a good food processor. If you would like to remove the skins, gently pinch them until the skin comes off

  2. Place de-skinned chickpeas in a blender or food processor with garlic, olive oil, ¼ cup water, and salt. Blend or puree until very smooth, adding the remaining water one tablespoon at a time if the mixture is too sticky to move through the blender. Once the mixture is going, you can stream in a little bit more olive oil to help achieve a super creamy texture

 

Perfect Pesto

INGREDIENTS

  • Fresh basil leaves (a couple)

  • 1 cup Pine Nuts

  • 1 Fresh garlics clove

  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil (as much as needed)

  • Salt and pepper to taste

 DIRECTIONS

  1. Pulse or blend everything except the olive oil together in a blender or food processor until combined. Pulse or blend until everything is finely-chopped.

  2. Drizzle in the olive oil while your blender or food processor is still running until the mixture is combined. If your pesto is too thick, thin it out with a few tablespoons of more extra virgin olive oil.

  3. Give the pesto a taste and season with extra salt and pepper if needed.

 ALTERNATIVES

  1. Basil can be swapped with spinach, parsley or cilantro

  2. Pine nuts can be swapped with almonds, walnuts or pecans

  3. Extra kick can be made with red pepper flakes or a few slices of jalapeño.
